Pure london launches sustainability toolkit to support independent retailers

Pure London, the global fashion buying platform for womenswear, accessories, jewellery, and footwear taking place on 12th – 14th February 2023 at Olympia London, has announced it will be launching The Independent Fashion Retailer Sustainability Toolkit during the February show on its Sustainability stand. With nearly 14,000 independent fashion retailers in the UK, the Toolkit has been created as an invaluable resource, providing a step-by-step guide with tangible and practical information on everything from reducing carbon footprint and energy consumption to sustainable packaging, to help them embrace sustainability in their business.

Designed to explore the key areas all fashion retailers need to address to move towards a more sustainable way of working, five comprehensive but easy to digest chapters cover mapping your impact and creating a strategy, operating store(s) in a more eco-conscious way, sourcing mindfully, embracing circularity, and how to communicate to customers.

The toolkit, produced and written by Pure London’s Sustainability Advisor Olivia Pinnock, also presents two insightful and informative independent retailer case studies with Trad Collective in Leeds and winner of the High Street Shop of the Year Sancho’s in Exeter, sharing how they embrace sustainability in their business and its benefits to their business, as well as Fashion Lectures videos with Pinnock on Climate Crisis, Circularity, and Sustainability.

The Climate Crisis

Join Olivia as she talks through the climate crisis, what is happening in the world because of it, how it is affecting business and the huge part that fashion has to play in the crisis.

Circularity

Olivia explains what circular fashion is, and what the term means. She then talks through why degrowth is better than green growth, explains circular business models and includes examples that can easily be implemented as a taste test for small businesses e.g, a secondhand rail within your store for a month and get your regular customer’s feedback.

Sustainability

This video looks at how to approach sustainability properly with customers, avoiding greenwashing and managing consumer expectations. From the language used to the level of communication with specific consumers, Olivia explains some of the tricky parts about sustainability and how to overcome them.

Gloria Sandrucci, Event Director of Pure London says, “We fully understand the importance of reducing the environmental impact within the fashion industry and are determined to use our global platform to inform on this critical topic and provide unrivalled advice. This Sustainability Toolkit is a must for any fashion business, and even better, it is entirely free saving businesses costly consultancy fees. It is imperative that every agent in the fashion industry works towards reducing their environmental footprint and reducing inequalities along the value chain to give everyone on Earth a fair chance at combatting the challenges ahead. Independents may not have the big teams or budget that chain stores do, but we believe they have many other qualities that make them well positioned to influence the industry in sustainable change. Collectively, we can make a huge difference.”

To celebrate the launch of the Toolkit, Pure London will have a Sustainability stand at this year’s show. Visit the stand for free expert knowledge and face to face guidance to kick start your sustainability journey, covering everything from reducing your carbon footprint, packaging, and energy consumption. Visitors can also join Olivia for a panel discussion on Monday 13th February at 3.30pm. Heads Together: Succeeding In Sustainable Retail, will discuss the future of sustainable fashion with three sustainable fashion advocates; Annick Ireland, Founder of Immaculate Vegan; Josefin Wanner, Fashion Designer and Co-Founder of Tråd Collective, and Kalkidan Legesse, CEO of OWNI.

Bringing together the brightest minds in the industry twice a year to showcase the UK’s largest womenswear collections, the best of the season’s must-have fashion accessories, shoes, and jewellery, the latest trends and forecasting expertise, exclusive business insight, and important international connections, Pure London provides the most inspirational platform to buy globally in the fashion capital.
