Pure Presents... Mandarin Silk

Pure Presents... Mandarin Silk

Take a look into the world of Mandarin Silk this season. Ahead of Pure Origin’s July showcase, I sat down with Rose at Mandarin Silk to find out more about this leading fabric supplier.

Tell me a bit more about Mandarin Silk – what’s your brand story and what do you do?

Established in November 1990, Mandarin Silk have 40 years’ experience in the fabrics and garment manufacturing industry. We produce sustainable fabrics and products using ecovero, tencel, BCI cotton and recycled polyester yarn. As our name suggests, we are also silk specialists, and our products include pure silks, blended silks, fancy jacquards and printed silks.

Currently our market is largely based in the USA, with a smaller presence in Europe and Asia – we’re hoping to expand these by attending Pure Origin!

Our services and day-to-day business includes everything from fabric research and development, printing and finishing and womenswear garment packaging – everything we do is defined by meticulous attention details.

Can you tell us about some of your key customers?

Some of our key customers are very high-profile and brands such as Burberry, Roksanda, Karen Millen, Paul Smith, All Saints, John Lewis, Boden and Reiss are all on our books. Of course, we look forward to seeing some our key names at Pure Origin to review our new collection with them.

What is the most exciting trend or new development in the fashion industry right now, and why?

For us, an exciting development in the industry is the growing discussion around sustainable fabrics and the increase in the number of brands we are talking to about our sustainable offering. We have our own silk dyeing mill and have the know-how to create and develop new, cutting edge sustainable fabrics, using a variety of yarns and weaving and finishing techniques which allows us to share our sustainable expertise with global customers

Can you share any trend predictions for the AW20/21 season?

Alongside sustainable fabrics, which are only going to get more popular in seasons ahead, we’re expecting textured fabrics to be popular. Fabrics like seersucker, hammered sating and dobby cloth is set to be popular. In terms of finishes, it will be about the contrasts between matte and shiny, but fluid and silky-touch fabrics will be on trend. For prints and patterns, we’re looking at geometrics, checks, stripes and liberty florals.

Where is your favourite fashion destination?

Italy and the UK are our joint favourites. We love fashion from Europe and Burberry and Armani are two of our best customers!
